Camping – German style

Musings from African GirlChild …

Camping in Germany is a bit of an experience.  At each place, we have been the only people in a tent.  “The rest?” I hear you ask.  Well, the rest have been semi-permanent tents and mobile homes.  Basically, people living there.

They also seem to operate much more of a “pay as you go” system than we experienced in Scandinavia.  And I don’t mean luxuries like internet and laundry … I mean the basics!  Shower?  Yip, you need to buy a token for that.  Hot water to do your dishes?  That’ll cost you too.  Electricity to use the stoves?  That too.

To be fair, it has been at some more than other sites … but these seem to me to be the bare essentials I have already grown to expect when camping in Europe!

Internet has been sparse.  The only place we had any internet (and it was even free!) was our current spot – where we have to pay for almost EVERYTHING else!  The irony is astounding ;)

Now Africa … that will be different again I am sure!

Good to hear you are still alive and getting back into the swing of things. The weather here has been really dismal for the last couple of days with yucky fog and drizzle..
I’m sure you’ll find camping, especially in southern Africa have more free essentials such as water, braai and electricity at each pitch and you’ll sometimes find those even in the deepest bush.

Enjoy and keep the details coming.

Tugs – save that sun!!! We seem to be chasing it south: a few days of warm sunshine, followed by a few cooler days to keep us moving ;) We should be with you in late November. Looking forward to it!!!

Glad the beanies are not needed now. :)

Regarding the ‘tokens’, this is why I fitted a dual battery system, and hot water system with internal water tank. ”tokens for electic hook up Sir = No thanks, tokens for shower Sir = No thanks, tokens for washing dishes = no thanks ” :) (can you tell I am from Scotland, with short arms and deep pockets???…!)
